What's the Bigger Disaster: A Superstorm or a Superhero?
Last year’s Superstorm Sandy panel was such a huge hit that we’re bringing it back for Round 2 at DRI2014 on Wednesday, May 21!
Reps from NYC’s Office of Emergency Management, the FBI, and the private sector will talk about the lessons learned from Sandy, and the changes they’ve made to response.
With Captain America: The Winter Soldier blasting onto the big screen, we wondered how New York City would cope with the damage from something even bigger than a Superstorm, like, say, an alien invasion like the one featured in 2012’s blockbuster Avengers movie.
Well, someone else did the math for us, and yikes! According to the Kinetic Analysis Corp., all that calamity and Hulk-smashing would come with a pretty hefty clean-up ticket: About $160 billion all told.
And then there’s the question of who’d foot the bill. Many insurance policies have Act of God provisions, and with Thor and Loki front and center, those insurance companies would have a pretty good case to make!
