April 9, 2015 Leave a comment dridrive

World-wide webThe strategic markets of Philippines, China, Japan, and Bangladesh are home to over half of the 100 cities most exposed to natural hazards — posing potential risks to businesses and supply chains all over the world, according to a new hazard map.

The 5th annual Natural Hazards Risk Atlas assesses the natural hazard exposure of over 1,300 cities considered significant economic and population centers. The atlas looks at the combined risk posed by tropical storms and cyclones, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, severe storms, wildfires, storm surges, volcanoes, and landslides.

Of the 100 cities with the greatest exposure to natural hazards:

  • Philippines – 21
  • China – 16
  • Japan – 11, and
  • Bangladesh – 8.
