Can Your Data Centers Withstand a Disaster?

July 2, 2015 Leave a comment dridrive

Your data center may only have a 50/50 shot of holding up in the event of a natural disaster, according to recent survey of European companies. What steps are they taking to make sure their crucial data survives?

In the past 10 years, one in two companies in the UK, Germany, and Turkey has experienced a disruption to their data center operation because of a natural disaster, with Turkey ranking highest in number of incidents (65%). That translates to 91% incurring expenses to business each time – as much as 500,000 pounds.

And twice as many of those that outsource have experienced a disruption caused by natural disaster – meaning those companies may be underestimating the importance of their outsourcing partners’ location.

Yet 64% of those that already outsource some data center operations are considering outsourcing even more to reduce exposure to disaster. 36% of those that don’t currently outsource are also considering this strategy. However for IT professionals in the UK and Turkey, it’s still preferable to host data within national borders, as a result of the EU Data Protection Directive.
