Congratulations to the DRI CANADA 2017 Awards of Excellence Recipients!

The DRI CANADA Awards of Excellence honour individuals who are leaders and innovators in the fields of Business Continuity and Technology Recovery (BC/DR).  DRI CANADA believes that it is our duty to recognize and celebrate excellence and we have committed to continuing the Awards of Excellence program to achieve this strategic goal.

The 2017 Award Winners:

DRI CANADA Builder
Granted to a professional who has made a significant contribution to the development and growth of DRI CANADA.

Recipient: Graeme Jannaway, B.Sc., CBCP, CISA, FLMI/M

Graeme Jannaway is an experienced contingency planner, project manager, information security specialist and information systems auditor. He has built an international reputation as a valued consultant, educator and speaker.  Building on 10 years-experience in Information Systems with a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto, Graeme decided in 1986 to specialize in business continuity and information security. Since then Graeme has consulted for companies in Canada, United States and Europe. In 2013 he received the Canadian Award for Business Continuity Management from Centennial College’s Emergency Management and Public Safety Institute.  Graeme was integral to the formation of DRI CANADA (DRIC), and through several years of service on the Board of DRIC in various positions and as a volunteer, has provided the drive and direction around the growth of the organization.  He has been involved with the development, delivery, and implementation of courses. His commitment of time and energy have been fundamental to bringing DRI CANADA to a leadership position within our profession. He holds several certifications and is also active in the standards world (CSA, ISO, NFPA) – both as a member and in leadership roles – as well as other organizations including DRIE Toronto.

DRI CANADA Volunteer of the Year
Granted to a person who has demonstrated exceptional achievement and commitment to the Business Continuity and Technology Recovery (DR) industry through volunteering efforts.

Recipient: Barry Bortnick, ABCP

Barry Bortnick has been involved with business continuity and disaster recovery for over 25 years. Barry is an active DRIE West member – as well as holding the position of Treasurer – a position where Barry has, and continues to provide diligence, oversight, and guidance for DRIE West.  He has initiated changes and improvements that have benefited both DRIE West members and DRIE West.  During his career, he has developed, written, and tested innumerable plans as recovery methods have evolved from tape and travel to virtualized recovery. He’s seen firsthand and worked to mitigate multiple disasters including most recently, the 2016 Fort McMurray fires. Barry holds a B.Sc. honours degree in Computer Science from the University of Regina and has a keen interest in volunteerism.

DRI CANADA Life Time Achievement
Granted to a person who has demonstrated exceptional achievement within the Business Continuity and Technology Recovery (DR) industry. Such achievement must be demonstrated by the professional excellence over the course of a significant career.

Recipient: Irene More, MBCP

Irene More is one of the most reputed Business Continuity Management (BCM) practitioners in North America and in many countries worldwide having served a variety of customers as a consultant and a coach for almost 25 years.  With her MBCP and other certifications, Irene is a recognized expert in the BCM industry in North America, Europe and Africa. As a speaker, she was regularly invited in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa to speak to diverse audiences on various subjects such as BCM testing, Pandemic contingency planning, selling BCM to senior management, as well as delivering in excess of 2000 hours of instruction to students coming from private and public organizations.  She has served on the DRIC BoD (6 years), Certification Commission for 8 years, and Awards of Excellence team for more than 8 years. She has also served with other organizations (Director of the Montreal Information Systems Security Association in excess of 10 years, and Secretary-Treasurer for DRIE-Montreal (now RECO-QUEBEC) for more than 5 years).  Irene is a Certified ISO 22301 Lead Implementer and Lead Auditor, Certified Member of the Business Continuity Institute, and a Certified Expert with the Business Continuity Management Institute.

 

This year’s award winners were honoured on June 22, 2017, at the Continuity Management Symposium held in Toronto.
