Telework is Part of the ‘New Normal’ – These Are the Challenges That Come With It

June 22, 2020 Leave a comment DRI Admin

When the coronavirus pandemic first hit, organizations around the world scrambled to build an infrastructure to help their employees work from home. Months later, how has telework affected organizations and their security?

Surveying 500 IT professionals in North America and Europe, many reported seeing improvements in performance – in fact, 49% of respondents said employee productivity actually increased as a result. And though they admit it carries risks, 59% of IT professionals expect the number of remote workers to increase after offices fully reopen.

Those risks are not insignificant, of course. 86% reported challenges related to digital identities, devices, and processes at their companies. Among the biggest cyber risks due to remote work:

  • Phishing attacks – 40%
  • Security of home Wi-Fi – 40%
  • Compliance with security protocols – 37%
  • Weak passwords – 31%
  • Data on personal devices not backed up – 30%
  • Unknown devices – 28%
  • Zoom bombing – 28%
  • No risks – 9%

With due respect to those very relaxed IT professionals reporting no risks, a quick recommendation to the rest of you reading this: why not take this moment, while you’re thinking of it, to email your staffers about cybersecurity best practices?
