UNDRR Announces New ARISE Global Board Members

DRI President Chloe Demrovsky to Serve For Three-Year Term

New York, NY, June 24, 2020 — The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction’s (UNDRR) private sector alliance, ARISE, has announced the latest members of its Global Board, including Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI) International President and CEO Chloe Demrovsky. They were elected from a field of 20 candidates, all with extensive knowledge, expertise and personal commitment, which clearly shows the importance and timeliness of the alliance’s work and focus.

“I am delighted to serve on the Global Board for UNDRR ARISE,” said Demrovsky. “This is the culmination of years of service including participating on the Business and Industry Delegation to the 2015 negotiations for the Sendai Framework, serving as Founding Vice-Chair for ARISE-US and many other projects over the last five years. I will work hard to further the important cause of building resilient communities worldwide.”

The new Board will take up from the current Board on July 15, 2020 for a 3 year term. They are:

  • Chloe Demrovsky – Disaster Recovery Institute International, United States
  • Martha Herrera – CEMEX, Mexico
  • Satoshi Hijikata – Kokusai Kogyo, Japan
  • Fernando Perez de Britto – AI Systems Research Ltd, Brazil
  • Ahmed Riad Ali – Estmrarya Management Consulting, Egypt
  • Nirankar Saxena – FICCI, India
  • Liza Silerio – SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SMPH), The Philippines

UNDRR also appoints three additional Board members. Based on a careful review and recommendations of the Election Committee, the selected appointed candidates are:

  • Lizra Fabien, DAIC, Dominica
  • Michael Sudarkasa, Africa Business Group , South Africa
  • Hans-Peter Teufers, UPS Foundation, Germany

The new Board members will present themselves to the ARISE membership of the ARISE AGM on the 15th of July.
