2023 Predictions: What’s Next for Remote Working?

January 12, 2023 Leave a comment DRI Admin

The DRI International Future Vision Committee has released its 8th Annual Predictions Report, looking ahead to 2022 and its impact on the resilience community. Download the complete report free from the DRI Library, and read on for a prediction about the evolution of remote working.

Prediction 4: Organizations will consolidate in-office/remote/hybrid arrangements.

After a period of experimentation, most organizations will establish an optimal operational model that works. Fully onsite will continue to be the most common in organizations/functions where it is a physical necessity, while most other operations will adopt some sort of hybrid model. For resilience professionals, this presents significant challenges and opportunities as digital transformation accelerates, networks (both social and tech) become more far-flung and difficult to secure, and the ways to build cohesive, compelling organizational cultures must be reimagined. This is likely to have a serious long-term impact on the commercial real estate market.

There also will be a shift in employment bargaining arrangements/policies where flexible work is debated on par with pay levels. For those organizations in which extensive homeworking is established, many companies will move to thin-client technology in home locations. This provides flexibility but brings much of the operational risk back to a data center (in-house or outsourced).

Join us for DRI2023 in Austin, TX, Feb. 26 – Mar. 1, 2023, where Future Vision Committee Chair Lyndon Bird will lead an interactive session where participants will have the opportunity to vote on a number of the key issues which have emerged from the reports. Bird will respond to voting as it happens, providing instant feedback and opinion. Please come to this session ready to participate, debate, and even argue if you wish.
