Gary Villeneuve Wins DRI International Honor Roll Award
Former DRI Director of Education Gary Villeneuve was recognized at the DRI2023 Awards of Excellence Gala this week in Austin, TX, as he was named this year’s recipient of the prestigious Honor Roll Award.
The DRI International Honor Roll Award was created to honor individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service to DRI International and materially contributed to the growth and reputation of DRI, made a significant and lasting impact on the field of business continuity, disaster recovery or a closely related risk-management field through their professional accomplishments, earned the respect and admiration of their professional colleagues, and served the profession over an extended period of time.
“Gary Villeneuve was my BCLE2000 instructor when I was first introduced to DRI International over 16 years ago. His enthusiasm and instructional excellence motivated me to apply for CBCP certification and carry the Professional Practices into the public sector continuity programs I’ve managed. His long and varied service to the profession and DRI clearly demonstrates that he has more than earned his place on this list,” said DRI Board of Directors Chair John Franchy. Honor Roll recipients are chosen by the board.
Villeneuve held the position of the Director of Education for DRI International for a decade from 2013-2022 building on a foundation of years of service as an instructor and then as lead instructor. In this role, he helped shape the profession in innumerable ways. He was responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining all courseware in support of DRI International training needs, ensuring consistency with exams and certifications, facilitating translations to 15+ languages, selecting, training, coaching and overseeing a global instructors corps of 125+, and developing instructor standards and documenting teaching standards for all DRI International instructors worldwide. Additionally, he has served on the Commission, the Education Committee and the Glossary Committee.
He is also one of the very top earners of DRI certifications as he holds all of the following credentials: MBCP, CBCLA, CPSCP, ARMP, CBCV, and ACRP.
“Anyone who has seen the number of badge ribbons he has proudly sported at each DRI conference knows that this is a man of great accomplishment,” said DRI President and CEO Chloe Demrovsky.
Outside of DRI, Villeneuve has also worked with Business Continuance Professionals, Department of Defense, Booz Allen and Hamilton, Potomac Research, Saint Regis Paper Company, and the University of West Florida. Skills developed over his greater than 40-year career include business continuity (BC), Continuity of Operations (COOP), disaster recovery (DR), emergency preparedness, project management, budget development and management, computer systems engineering, consulting, education and training, video production, and employee supervision and management. He also served as a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and served on the NFPA 1600 Technical committee.
Demrovsky praised Villeneuve, saying that he “was a pleasure to work with. He has always been kind, supportive and professional. There is no person who better personifies our values.”
