Young Risk Professionals Committee Kickoff Event at the Whitney a Success!
By Adam Fondale, DRI Global Operations Associate
DRI’s Young Risk Professionals Committee (YRPC) hosted its kickoff event on October 20, with the world-famous Whitney Museum of American Art as the venue. The event was broken into two parts: a fascinating behind-the-scenes look of the Whitney’s storm protection infrastructure, followed by an entertaining night out with the Young Risk Professionals group at local establishment, Brass Monkey.
The tour at the Whitney began with the 50+ local risk, business continuity, disaster recovery, and emergency management professionals being led to a private room by Project Director and tour leader, Larissa Gentile. Gentile presented to the group with a dynamic presentation that detailed the storm protection infrastructure of the Whitney, including how Hurricane Sandy impacted the building plans (the museum took on an estimated 6.5 million gallons of water during the storm).
Shortly after, the group enjoyed an in-person exclusive look at the Whitney’s storm protection infrastructure. Along with Larissa Gentile, Committee Chair Scott Reutter also spoke to the group, which included NYPD’s First Deputy Commissioner Benjamin Tucker.
After the first part of the evening concluded, Kevin Cassidy, Director of Public Safety and Risk Management at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, spoke briefly at Brass Monkey, where the group enjoyed a night of networking and drinks with colleagues and friends.
